Introduction

Membrane bound proteins are a class of proteins that can bind to cell membranes or other biological membranes to perform biological functions in the intra- and extracellular environments.

Membrane bound proteins have a relatively simple structure, usually consisting of one or more membrane-bound domains, an extracellular domain and an intracellular domain. Membrane-bound proteins are able to regulate cell morphology and movement, promote intercellular adhesion and interactions, and participate in biological processes such as cell signaling and material exchange by binding to biological membranes.

Numerous membrane proteins are involved in almost every life activity within the cell, including ligand-receptor binding, signal transduction, molecular transport, intercellular recognition and enzyme catalysis, etc. Therefore, membrane bound protein is one of the important targets for many drug discovery and clinical therapeutic studies.
