Transcription factors

Introduction

Transcription factors, also known as trans-acting factors, are proteins that can bind to specific nucleotide sequences upstream of a gene, and these proteins can regulate the transcription of its genes, including TFIIA, TFIIB, TFIID, HSF, HIF, SREBP and so on.
Based on protein structure, these transcription factors generally consist of DNA-binding domains, transcription regulation domains (including activation and repression domains), oligomerization sites, and nuclear location signals (NLS). Transcription factors are not only related to a variety of major human diseases. For example, p53, myc, ER, Id are related to cancer; PPAR are related to obesity; MEF2, HIF1 are related to heart disease.
Transcription factors are also involved in the regulation of plant growth and development, as well as stress defense responses. Studying the functions of transcription factors and their interacting factors is essential for understanding their roles in signaling cascade reactions and provides a theoretical basis for basic research and production applications.
