Important Note:
By default, qPCR primer pairs are designed to measure the expression level of the splice variant (accession number) you selected for this gene WITHOUT consideration of other possible variants of this gene. If this gene has multiple variants, and you would like to measure the expression levels of one particular variant, multiple variants, or all variants, please contact us for a custom service project at inquiry@genecopoeia.com.

Summary
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) family and the TGF-beta superfamily.
Gene References into function
- Quantitative real-time reverse transcription-PCR in colorectal cancer specimens obtained from 130 patients showed that GDF11 mRNA expression in cancer tissue was significantly higher than in normal tissue
- Members of the transforming growth factor beta (TGFbeta) superfamily, bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP2), and growth and differentiation factor 11 (GDF11), can signal cultured RGCs to form dendrites.
- We propose that Pcsk5, at least in part via GDF11, coordinately regulates caudal Hox paralogs, to control anteroposterior patterning, nephrogenesis, skeletal, and anorectal development.
- Differential antagonism of activin, myostatin and growth and differentiation factor 11 by wild-type and mutant follistatin.
- Both WFIKKN1 and WFIKKN2 have high affinity for growth and differentiation factors 8 and 11.
